The Happy Film

The Happy Film is a film about finding happiness by a Graphic Designer Stefan Sagmeister, co-director Ben Nabors, and Hillman Curtis. Sagmeister has tried 3 methods to discover happiness through meditation, therapy, and drugs in 3 months.

The first method meditation was taken part in Bali where he attended a meditation retreat, he complains of boredom and his back hurts during the months he stay in Bali. For therapy, he challenges himself to make a conversation with strange women on the street. The third method is he take drugs, in the form of antidepressants, do the trick. " I love big pharma" he notes in the film. He also falls for and becomes engaged to a woman who allows him to document the rise and fall of their relationship, but their relationship ends after The Happy Show exhibition.

From The Happy Film, I have learned that as a graphic designer we have to explore more with an object that surrounding us where Sagmeister has used a different kind of object to form typography.

Furthermore, the combination of text and image is all around the happy show exhibition which is a creative idea where people will easily remember the details and message that trying to describe.

I also learn to use an object to rate our feelings where Sagmeister fill 3 glass of water to rate his happiness.

Overall It is an interesting film and I have learned a lot from the film such as a different kind of object that forms into typography, the combination of text and image, and collecting data.
