Structured observation + Data visualisation

In today class we have learned about qualitative workshop The Five Ultimate Hatracks organized by L.A.T.C.H which is location, alphabet, time, category, or hierarchy.

So we are assigned into 5 groups and 4 people in each group, each group have different venue to collect data, and for my group venue that given by lecturer is in library right side, is a section where students revise their own and place where they do their assignment, and also computer room for students.

We have 1 hour to observe the students and we walk around in and out and then stand inside the bookshelves, what we did for our observation in the library was the numbers of people in the right side library, numbers of people who wearing earphones while studying and students who communicate.

As you can see the yellow box that sticks with lots of colorful sticks represent male and female in the library, the strings that stick to one and another represent the student's interaction, and then outside of the box, we label the location of the study area, computer area, sofa, and bookshelves.

In this workshop, I have learned that observation is an action that we have to observe clearly so that we can get accurate numbers to collect our data. Besides, I have also learned the difference in collecting data in L.A.T.C.H.

Hey Yi Xin, nice attempt at reflecting on your process. It would be much better if you explained more on your data visualisation piece, maybe include a bit more photos from different angles. Does the sticks represent the number of people in the different areas of the library? How many people does one stick represent? I remembered during the presentation that the position of the sticks when viewed from the front angle also means something. Maybe you can elaborate further on that.
